CHURCH OF THE GESU - UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH
The Church of the Gesu celebrated its dedication in April of 1958 after serving in temporary chapels since 1926. In anticipation of the hundred-year anniversary of the parish, two things needed to be done for the current building: painting the sanctuary and refinishing the wooden furniture and paneling around the church.
The yellow hues in the sanctuary were replaced by a lighter ecru on the walls and ceiling grid, and a deep navy blue on the acoustic panels that lay inset in the coffered ceiling. A stripe of gold trim now accents the grid around the coffers, and the star pattern that spans the length of the church is modelled after the night sky on the date Gesu Parish was founded. Our artists embellished the side walls around the statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph with a gold and tone-on-tone stenciled pattern.
The pews and wood panels around the sanctuary were also in need of repair after decades of use. Both have been sanded, stained, and refinished to last many more years of faithful worship.
After the installation of the new tabernacle, Henninger's artisans painted a suitable faux-marble background to match the stone in the surrounding sanctuary and provide a more harmonious look. A few connected rooms were also repainted and refinished, including the vestibule, confessionals, cry room, and a meeting room to serve the needs of the parish.
